Corin is a senior studying creative writing and minoring in philosophy. He loves all fiction, but particularly loves fantasy and the works of Ursula K. Le Guin. Corin joined Genesis in spring 2022 and was proud to work on the 50th issue.
Editor
Katherine is a graduate student in her second year of the English program. She has been a part of the genesis staff for five semesters. Due to scheduling conflicts, she had to take last semester off but is super excited to be back! After graduation she hopes to work in publishing. Currently, she is reading the third book in The Thursday Murder Club series, The Bullet that Missed. Although she is not normally a fan of mystery books this series has quickly become one of her favorites. Her favorite issue of genesis is Spring 2022, genesis’ 50th anniversary edition. Her favorite author is Neil Gaiman.
Managing Editor
Bailey is a senior double majoring in English Literature and Classical Studies. She is also double minoring in Creative Writing and Art History. This is her third year as an Editor on the genesis staff and her second year as one of two Managing Editors. Bailey was an apprentice for the 50th anniversary edition of the magazine and now has a soft spot in her heart for it, but her favorite issue is the 2024 edition that she spent months designing. Though she was never published in the pages of genesis, she has three poems published in Butler University’s Manuscripts entitled I thought of you today, king me, Lover Come Home and one fiction piece entitled Rightful Inheritance. When she has the time, Bailey enjoys wandering around art museums and scrolling through wikipedia.

Jess is a senior who switched to the Creative Writing major after reading the fall 2016 issue of genesis. After having several submissions to genesis declined, they adopted the "if you can't beat them, join them" mentality. Their favorite things to read and write about are horror, queerness, and anything written by or similar to Kieron Gillen.
Managing Editor
Shannon Kucaj is a Creative Writing major with minors in Psychology, Professional & Public Writing, Communication Studies, and Classical Studies; she will be graduating in May 2023. Her poetry piece “Cobweb Words” was published in the Spring 2021 issue of genesis (prior to her joining the editorial team) and won the “best of” poetry for that issue. She also has three poems published in Butler University’s Manuscripts: “In My Friend’s Room, Melting”, “The Dreamer Test Drives”, and “Night Study”. This is her second year with the genesis team, and she is excited to continue promoting the magazine and reading student work! Currently she is working toward a future in publishing, specifically within editorial work. Her favorite genres are poetry and science fiction, with some of her favorite works being Ross Gay’s Be Holding and Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Lathe of Heaven. She looks forward to publishing her own poetry collection in the future. Senior Editor
Simone is currently a senior studying English Literature and Creative Writing. This is her fourth semester on the genesis staff, and after graduation, she hopes to use this experience in the editing and publishing field. If pressed, she would say her favorite book of all time is Pride and Prejudice, but it’s an incredibly tough decision. It is her lifelong dream to one day publish her own novel, and this summer she figured out how to work Amazon self-publishing and released a historical flash fiction collection she wrote back in high school as a sort-of experiment. If anyone is at all interested, you can check it out here. She spends her free time reading (a few of her favorite authors are Jane Austen, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis), watching Gilmore Girls or some other late 90s/early 2000s show, managing a bakery café, or preparing to travel the world.

Alexa Quezada is a master’s student studying English. She studied Literature and CreativeWriting as an undergrad, during which time she published her first piece in genesis’s Spring2019 issue. She joined the genesis staff in Fall 2019 and later became a senior editor in Spring2021. Her favorite issue so far was the 50th anniversary issue, published in Spring 2022, inwhich genesis republished several works from the past five decades. Aside from genesis, Alexahas also been published in Butler’s Manuscripts and Texas Tech’s Iron Horse Literary Review.In her free time, Alexa writes poetry, knits, overanalyzes children’s media, and paints her nailswith fun but bizarre designs.

Sarah is a first-year graduate student at IUPUI. She was a member of genesis staff during her undergraduate career and is thrilled to be back! She graduated in Spring ’21 with a BA in English and has worked in/around the Indianapolis community as a writer, editor, and educator. You can typically find her avoiding eye contact with the stack of books on her nightstand (she swears to read them sometime in the next decade). Monica is a senior planning to graduate in May 2023. She is majoring in English (Professional and Public Writing) with a minor in Communication Studies. She has been on the staff of genesis since Fall 2021. Her favorite genesis issue is from Spring 2022, because of the celebration of the 50 year anniversary of genesis contained there. While she has a stack of six or so books she is trying to read at any given time, her favorite book is The Lord of the Rings. Based on that, the fictional place she would most like to go to is the Shire from Middle-earth. In fact, one of her bucket list items is taking a trip to New Zealand to visit the site where the Shire was filmed for the LOTR films. One of her greatest life achievements thus far was being called a “library saint” by a patron she helped at the library where she works. She hopes to continue doing editorial work after graduation. For now, on any given day, she can probably be found drinking a lot of tea or coffee and wearing clothing that is at least 60% blue.

Laura Tuzzio is a senior majoring in Creative Writing and planning to graduate in Summer 2023. She has contributed to genesis as a writer, and this will be her second year as an editor. She considers the Fall 2018 genesis issue her favorite because it was the first time her work was published. She also has work in the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 issues. One of her favorite books is, The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. She’s recently been enjoying more historical fiction works. After graduation she hopes to find a writing or editing position and then write a bestseller that Oprah or Reese Witherspoon make into a multimillion dollar box office hit! (It could happen). Savanna Williams is a junior studying English with a concentration in Creative Writing. She is also minoring in film and literature. She’s acts as a Senior Editor on the staff of genesis and spends a great deal of time making our social media pop! Her favorite book is Wildfire by Hannah Grace. She enjoys writing but is mostly focused on poetry at the moment. She became a published poet through genesis in the Spring of 2023 with the piece Defending Death by Overdose. So, with bias, that would have to be her favorite issue! After graduation, Savanna plans to grow her dream of becoming a published writer and has high hopes of working for a big-name magazine. This dream and dedication blossomed after her junior year of high school when she was introduced to Edgar Allan Poe’s, The Black Cat. Being quite scared of horror and gore, she wouldn’t be afraid to live in one of Poe’s stories—as they are fictional and very much not real. As for somewhere more whimsical, she’d be open to checking out the planets from A Wrinkle in Time. Overall, Savanna is over the moon to be working alongside genesis this semester!
